4th of July weekend…. Hmmmmmmm what to do? Not having my Son and partner in crime @Trustfall1 with me I was left with 4 days and a loose goal around improving my golf game ⛳️…. Phoenix? Too hot. Vegas? Same. Oh! How about Banff? – too bad the flight choices stunk. But recently I’d heard about some new courses opening in Cabo? How about that? A quick check revealed great prices on rooms and flights, and away I went! 🇲🇽🌵🌴
As a food driven traveler I am always sure to dig around on Eater and some of the blogs I trust for recommendations. Pretty soon I had a list of at least 10 spots to try, from humble taquerias all the way up to Enrique Olvera’s outpost in this part of Mexico, Manta at The Cape.
One that intrigued me though was @florafarms. A true and genuine representative of farm to table cuisine hidden in the hills above San Jose Del Cabo. Chefs Guillermo and Leslie Tellez are driving a sensory experience in every way. Having worked fine dining for years under Charlie Trotter – the combination of organic, sustainable and seasonal dishes are enhanced by perfect seasoning, excellent technique and most notably, a complete lack of pretension.
Authentic from the moment you set foot on the property, virtually everything you consume was grown or raised right on the premises. Part farm, part restaurant, part cooking school, this is artisanal food, served with true hospitality and which reflects an intentional simplicity. Summer corn soup, house raised heritage pork, fresh asparagus simply grilled and dressed with herbs of the day. All products at their peak and presented with care.
Flora Farms is undeniably one of the most beautiful settings I have ever dined in. The sunset lighting, elegant but simple fixtures and warm, giving smiles served to elevate and inspire. Honest, don’t let the dirt roads or wandering cows fool you. The golden hour can do NOTHING to improve this place. It was artful, evocative and pure in every sense.
Flora Farms is is a place and serves food that you FEEL and I can not play it a greater compliment. Clean, flavors, direct plating and indelible ambiance. I visited again the next evening, bringing a dinner companion who had a similar takeaway…namely that this is a special place. Both of us surrounded by the natural beauty of Los Cabos, and enjoying a golden evening with a Team and other guests sharing warm and welcoming vibes.
