“The 5” is back! – Dec. 2022

Let’s see, Pandemic? Check. Worldwide travel bans? Check. Closed borders and ever shifting vaccination requirements? Check and check. 😦

To say that travel, fine-dining, adventure and exploration have been curtailed in the last 36 months would be an epic understatement. However as we collectively emerge into what is in many ways a vastly different world, there are things that have changed and some (thankfully) that really haven’t.

Travel is still an education, new places are still an opportunity to learn and adventure is still out there (and much closer to home then you might have thought).

So I’m once again happy to share some things that have moved, inspired or amazed me in 2022. No rhyme or reason – just experiences that I felt to be remarkable and some color on how or why they made me feel that way

Check back in now and then for some new inspiration – 2023 will be a year of color, immersion and opportunity.

Lets go!

#1: Adventure can be close at hand…

Nevada is a wild and wonderful place filled with springs, canyons and vistas that stretch to the horizon. It’s also FILLED with friendly, hardy and enduring people that embody the “Spirit of the West”. If anything good came out of the restrictions imposed by the pandemic? It was a much greater appreciation for the place I live and all that it offers.

You’ll see this motto around here… “Don’t fence me in” and after a few days in rural Nevada, you’ll see why so many of us feel this way

#2: Beauty

#3 Food: Yes this may seen obvious – but I had some AMAZING experiences this year. I have one more trip planned prior to year end – so a top 10 list will still be a few days off, but SPOILER ALERT: The dish of my year just may have been a dessert 🙂

#4 Art: I credit my friend Jen for helping me appreciate fine art. To really appreciate the emotion, connection and sense of it. The color and stories – so much to learn about and appreciate. And while I believe that my approach and favorites are still being established, I can say for sure that my love for art was a big part of my journey in 2022.

#5: The simple pleasure of GREAT wine in a Zalto stem. Regardless of where in the world you might be, even (especially) in your own home, there is something to be said for a stunning wine in a perfect glass. Go out and splurge on Zalto and pour something great. You’ll be happy that you did.
